What is Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)?
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment process used by Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) to evaluate an individual’s existing knowledge, skills, and experience—gained through formal, informal, or non-formal learning—to determine whether they meet the competency requirements of a qualification or unit.
According to the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF), RPL is:
“An assessment process that involves assessment of an individual’s relevant prior learning (including formal, informal, and non-formal learning) to determine the credit outcomes of an individual application for credit.”.
Are these qualifications Nationally Recognised Training?
Yes, qualifications obtained through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) are nationally recognised training if they are:
- Issued by a Registered Training Organisation in accordance with Australian Rules, Regulations and Standards set out for RPL.
- You receive the exact same qualification as students who have studied it.
How do students receive their Qualifications?
Most students receive their Qualifications by Email in PDF format, but may also request a hard copy of their Testamur and Transcript to be mailed to them. Your Qualification will also be registered onto your USI.
